WNUF Halloween Special Movie Review

WNUF Halloween Special from my understanding is not well known. In fact, I didn’t know about it until someone mentioned it randomly on Facebook. The person said it was the best representation of an old VHS viewing made today; the person was entirely right in saying that. WNUF Halloween Special looks like it was made back in the late 80s on VHS, but was in fact shot in 2013. Chalk full of vintage looking commercials, all wrapped around a reporter investigating a supposedly haunted house (think Tales from the Crypt episode, Television Terror with Morton Downey Jr.), WNFU Halloween Special is one movie you should put on your Halloween watch list. Read on to see if you agree…

Short nitty-gritty plot description from IMDb is as follows: Originally broadcast live on October 31, 1987, the ‘WNUF Halloween Special’ is a stunning expose of terrifying supernatural activity that unfolded at the infamous Webber House, the site of ghastly murders. Local television personality Frank Stewart leads a group of paranormal investigators including Catholic exorcist, Father Joseph Matheson and the prolific husband-and-wife team Louis and Claire Berger. Together, the experts explore the darkest corners of the supposedly haunted Webber House, trying to prove the existence of the demonic entities within. Did they find the horrific truth or simply put superstitious rumors to rest?

Tatlock’s Quick ‘n Dirty Review: The pain staking work that the film-makers went through to get this movie looking straight 80s needs to be applauded. It doesn’t matter if some of the acting is hokey, or that not much spookiness happens in the haunted house. All that really matters, is that this movie looks like the real, vintage 80s Halloween special it’s meant to be. From the fake commercials about carpets sales, political smear campaigns, parents against partying and a dentist, who is running a cash for candy campaign, WNUF Halloween Special was a nice nostalgic treat. The fact that even the quality of the video looks like a VHS playing, with tracking issues, someone fast forwarding through repeated commercials and sound glitches, I can’t recommend this movie enough for fans of meticulous work.

Verdict: Yes, WNUF Halloween Special isn’t all that scary and there may be times where you’ll feel like fast forwarding, but the amount of work that went into making this seem authentic, is enough alone to highly recommend checking it out this Halloween season.
