I actually had to go back and read my original review of The Pact, in order to remember what it was about and how much I liked it. As I thought, it was a good, but not great chiller, with some stiff acting and a neat twist. The Pact II, a movie no one saw coming, goes about the same kind of route, but offers a few more chilling scenes and overall better acting. However, it still doesn’t give us a great film and instead, delivers a dumb ending, which nearly spoils everything before it.

Tatlock’s Quick ‘n Dirty Recap: Only a few weeks after the end of the first movie, The Pact, puts us along side June Abbott (Camilla Luddington), as she suffers from nightmares that are starting to come true. Meanwhile, murder is taking place around her and a nosy FBI agent (Patrick Fischler) is hot on the case. Annie (Caity Lotz), the girl from the first movie, shows up for a bit and helps June out, as June’s past has close connections with the events that happened to her in the first film.
Tatlock’s Opinion: I’ll get my main opinion out of the way first. I didn’t really like this movie as much as the first one. It was kind of slow and the ending pretty much craps all over itself and really doesn’t explain anything. With that all said, I will admit that there was a few places within the overly long feeling run time of 96 minutes, that I had a few goosebumps go up and down my arm, but those moments are few and far between.
The problem the movie has, is that it doesn’t really explain anything. The whodunit aspect of the storyline is glazed over and the “twist” ending kinda plops itself down and says, “yep, I’m a lazy excuse for a twist, but you’ll have to deal.”
Camilla Luddington of Grey’s Anatomy fame(?) does an admiral job with what she has to do, which is look scared, angry, sad and run around a few times. Yep, it isn’t the most tasking acting job and she does alright with it. As I said above, Caity Lotz does return in the role of Annie for a little bit, but I felt like it was a wasted role. They could’ve done more with her, but maybe her rise to fame on the hit TV show Arrow is to blame for the limited screen time. I’ll admit though, she did a better job in the smaller role, than she did in the first movie. I guess less lines means less stiff delivery.
Verdict: The Pact II just isn’t that good of a movie and it’s certainly not as good as the first one, which wasn’t that amazing to begin with. It’s got a few cheap thrills, but overall lacks enough of a solid story, to really send home the goods. If you’re a fan of the first, check it out, but know it probably won’t live up to your expectations.
