I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance is Mine (Blu-ray / Movie Review)

It’s been five years since the release of the remake I Spit on Your Grave and we’ve finally got another sequel that continues with the character of Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler returning to the role) from the first one (the second movie was about a different girl and event.) I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance is Mine catches up with Jennifer, who is still suffering from the traumatic events of the first movie and goes to show us how she is coping with those appalling memories. If you’re wondering how, it’s through numerous daydreams about murdering guys and the occasional real murder, which will make you flinch significantly.

PLOT SUMMARY

After seeking out the help of a support group after her attack, a young woman takes the law into her own hands and dishes out her own brand of justice to the abusers of her fellow group members.

MOVIE

I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance is Mine goes to grand lengths to show us that a sizable amount of men are evil in one form or another. No, seriously, every single guy in this movie, save for one or two, is either a pervert or an abuser. It’s essentially taken to ridiculous extremes at times, and there is only a finite amount of times that you can accept that every man Jennifer meets is trying to land in her pants, with or without her permission. Yes, Sarah Butler is remarkably hot, but there has to be some guy out there that isn’t a complete asshole.

It’s been a few years since the events of the first movie and Jennifer is trying her best to move on with her life, but after visiting other victims of rape in a meeting, she meets a friend, Marla (Jennifer Landon), who gets her back into the swing of things by going after the men that have hurt these other women. Most of them deserve all the horrible acts committed against them, be a sliced up penis or a pipe up the arse, but the police think justice should only be dwelt with through the proper legal channels and Jennifer starts having a few run-ins with the law the more she extracts her innovative justice. Has Jennifer gone off the deep end and can you absolutely blame her? Check out the flick to see precisely what happens.

I enjoyed I Spit on Your Grave III, as much as a sliced in two pecker can bring enjoyment, but I can’t quite say I dug it as much as the first movie. At least with the first one, the guys involved are clearly evil and the inflicted actions were just, but in the third movie, there are times when you are wondering if maybe she has gone a little overboard. Also, the constant use of daydreaming all these different murders throughout the flick can become quite tiresome, as you never absolutely know if what you are seeing is indeed happening. Most of the extreme gore happens in these little day trips, which are flashed through quickly. Nevertheless, there are other scenes that bring the gory plasma, but it’s not as extreme as the first movie. In the end, I had an enjoyable enough time as you can with a rape / revenge film, and with that being said, I recommend checking it out.

BLU-RAY

Anchor Bay releases I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance is Mine on Blu-ray, with some fantastic looking video and audio, although with no special features included. I would’ve loved to see some behind the scenes or interviews, but alas, we receive nothing. As for the video and audio, the film is looking sharp, with no detectable defects or noise produced. The audio is loud and precise, with a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 being the only audio option included.

BLU-RAY SPECIAL FEATURES

– None 🙁

VERDICT

I Spit on Your Grave III falls into a category of movies that won’t be for all, but I relish seeing movies about women getting some sweet revenge against the atrocities that some men commit, even if sometimes they go a little overboard in making every guy an evil archetype. If you enjoyed the first and second, you’ll be thrilled to know that the third flick and Blu-ray from Anchor Bay is a worthwhile pickup.
