In the year 3000, everything looks a little bit 80s, or so I’m led to believe in Scream Factory’s Blu-Ray release of Exterminators of the Year 3000, a Road Warrior knock off if there ever was one. Still, even though with it being hardly original, the dialogue being just awful and the dubbing hilarious, Exterminators is a fun movie and I’m guessing it’s never looked this good before.

Short nitty-gritty plot description is as follows: In a post-apocalyptic future where the earth is a desert and water is the most precious substance of all, a band of survivors must turn to a mysterious stranger to battle a ruthless gang of motorcycle psychos for control of the wasteland and the water. A glorious crash of guns, nuclear fallout, and synthesizers make this a must-see for anyone who’s been longing for the day in which they can finally get beyond Thunderdome.
Movie Opinion: Released in 1983, Exterminators of the Year 3000 is a low budget, Italian/Spanish movie, that goes about ripping off the Mad Max movies and it doesn’t even try to hide the fact that it does. That’s pretty ballsy if you ask me. Is the movie any good, though? Well, it’s most certainly not a good movie, as it’s horribly written and the acting is pretty damn awful, but it’s got a weird charm to it that I can’t quite the describe.
This movie can be neatly lumped in with all the other wonderfully so bad their good movies of the 80s. It’s a cheese filled romp through a post-apocalyptic future, with a lead character by the name of Alien, played by Robert Iannucci, who doesn’t give two shits whether you live or die. He’s the anti-hero, one that you love to hate, but you know in the end, his heart will grow two sizes too big. Add in a smoking hot babe, by the name of Trash, played by Alicia Moro and a kid (Luca Venantini), who has a bionic arm, which isn’t explained and this movie is gold, comedy gold. I haven’t even mentioned the real bad guys of the movie, the Exterminators, led by their nefarious leader, Crazy Bull (Fernando Bilbao), who loves to call everyone Mother-grabbers. Why? I do not know, but man does it sound cool.
There are a few parts in this movie that do have some pretty good quality about them. They mostly deal with the action bits, which have many cool, slow-motion cars being thrown through the air and crashing, or guys being thrown off their motorcycles. I wasn’t bored once during all these pretty looking action scenes.
If I had to complain about one thing, it would be the ending. Our main characters are trying to find water and when they think they do, it turns into The Wizard of Oz, with an ominous voice and a bunch of deformed people. No idea what was going on there. The movie doesn’t explain anything and instead just leaves everything kind of up in the air, but hey, at least we get a wonderful and cliché 80s freeze frame credit roll at the end.
Blu-Ray Opinion: Scream Factory was originally going to release this movie in a two pack with Cruel Jaws, but seeing how that movie ripped scenes right from Jaws and Jaws 2, Scream was worried about legal issues, so decided to release this movie by itself. Honestly, it would’ve worked much better in a two pack, but the price isn’t too bad and the movie itself has never looked better. It’s also has some good audio as well, with dialogue being nice and clean and the action nice and loud. As for special features, there isn’t anything new, as it’s all carried over from the Code Red DVD. You have an interview with lead actor Robert Iannucci, which runs 17:43 minutes. It’s informative to what Iannucci had to go through with the movie. Next up, you have a trailer for the film, which has some awful, way too heavy bass sounding audio, which nearly killed my speakers. Rounding out is a few TV spots and finally commentary with Robert Iannucci.

Verdict: Exterminators of the Year 3000 isn’t a great movie and hardly a good movie, but it’s a fun movie. You invite a few friends over, pop it in and drink every time Crazy Bull says Mother-grabbers. You’ll probably be passed out before the confusing end rolls around.
