Dredd 3D Movie Review

Holy crap, this movie was amazing! The action, music, violence and look of the film was all top notch. I could end the review right here and tell you to go now and watch this movie, but I’ll please the masses and write a little more…

Short nitty-gritty plot description from IMDb is as follows: In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

I don’t know anything about Judge Dredd, aside from watching the Stallone movie once. I thought it was okay and didn’t hate it as much as most people in the entire universe. Dredd 3D on the other hand, was just so freaking awesome and you don’t need to know a thing about the character. Enough explanation is given in the film, so you won’t be lost. The story is very basic, but works great for the movie. It doesn’t overload you with information, it shows you what you need to know. There are a few things left in the dark and I really enjoy that they decided not to explain everything.

Karl Urban, dons the helmet and never takes it off for the entire movie, which from what I heard about the character, is a good thing. Honestly, I think it’s a testament to how great Urban was in the film, that you don’t need to see his face, yet you still get attached to how cool the character is. The character is a layered mystery and you’re only given the necessary information. Although, there are times in the movie where you’re wondering if he’s enjoying the violence a little too much. Some other notable appearances come from Lena Headey, who plays Ma-Ma. She’s one crazy bitch and you just love to hate her. Finally, Olivia Thirlby, plays Dredd’s rookie student, Anderson and she’s a perfect partner. She’s really hot and once she get’s over her fear, she goes into high gear and really kicks some serious ass.

Dredd 3D is a violent movie, with some really amazing special effects. It doesn’t look low budget; it’s stylish and with the SLO-MO scenes being a highlight in the film. I saw the movie in 3D (gasp!) and I think it was by far the best 3D I’ve seen so far, with some scenes having blood and glass flying at you. Mind you though, I haven’t seen too many 3D films, so there might be better ones out there, but for me it was the best.

One of the best things to come out of this movie for me was the music. A mix of industrial type techno, that really makes your head shake and heart thump. It makes the scenes all that much better. If you want to hear for yourself, check out this youtube clip for the full soundtrack. Also, the movie is incredibly loud!

You have to see Dredd 3D. It rates up there as one of the best action films I’ve seen. It’s a shame that the movie isn’t doing that great at the Box Office. I plead to you, go to the movies and check it out. I want a sequel people and the only way is to give this movie your hard earned money, cause it deserves it.

Well I guess I have to go see Dredd 3D now that you've given it the Tatlock Seal of Approval! Great review! I'm not really sure exactly what's happening in that last photo, but it does look bloody…
