The creepy doll from The Conjuring has its own movie! Dolls are hella scary, that one thing is true for sure, but Annabelle does not utilise the doll enough in my pointless opinion and comes out with minimal scares, but an interesting, entraining story, one that is worth checking out.

Tatlock’s Quick ‘n Dirty Review: If the beginning part of The Conjuring really tickled your fancy, then you’re going to love the movie Annabelle. If you do not remember, The Conjuring started its story about the doll, getting the scare juices running early. Annabelle goes about explaining how these nurses got their hands on it and the entire backstory behind why the doll is so evil. It honestly sounds like the perfect recipe for some frightening stuff, but sadly, it does not really provide the hair-raising scares you think it is going too.

Do not get me wrong. There are plenty of scenes in the movie where you’ll get a jump or two, but those can all be considered jump scares, with loud noises making you jump out of you theatre seat. If you go in expecting The Conjuring level of fear, you will be sadly disappointed. Thankfully, the story more than makes up for any lack of true frights. It is interesting to hear how this evil doll came about. (Although honestly, even after watching the movie, I am still confused as to how a demon, dead girl, and doll have anything in common. I understand the conduit part for the demon, but is the dead girl a ghost or something? Shout out in the comments below if you like to discuss.)

Verdict: The Annabelle doll might be scary looking (but aren’t all porcelain dolls scary?), but the lack of using the doll to create the scares is disappointing. However, do not let that distract you from checking the movie out, as even though Annabelle might not frighten you enough to turn your hair white, the interesting story makes up for it.
