Well, this is quite a strange and bizarre film. Am I glad I finally got around to seeing Nekromantik? Not really and in fact, I think I would have rather of kept it one of those films I have heard about, but never seen, because now that I have seen it, I know it’s not my cup of a tea at all and I’m not entirely sure why other people would like it either. However, if you do like it, then Cult Epics Blu-ray release of Nekromantik is going to make you smile from ear to ear.

Short nitty-gritty plot description from IMDb is as follows: A street sweeper who cleans up after grisly accidents brings home a full corpse for him and his wife to enjoy sexually, but is dismayed to see that his wife prefers the corpse over him.
Tatlock’s Quick ‘n Dirty Review: They pretty much should have called this movie Nekromantik: Acquired Taste, because this movie is only going to appeal to a niche crowd, people who don’t mind a little perversion in their cup of horror. As for me, I just found it largely unnecessary and gross for gross out sake and nothing more. There are plenty of scenes that were not needed; for example, the full on man urinating for a good 10 or 15 seconds, without anything covered up or hidden. Why is this in the movie? I do not know. Another thing, how about that long scene of the real live rabbit having its throat slit open and skinned alive in front of your very eyes. Why bother showing that shit? Seriously, it’s ridiculously pointless.
I have not even touched on the wild ass ending, which involved fake penises, ejaculation, cut stomachs and spurting blood. I can certainly tell you my jaw dropped on that scene, but it was not because I was amazed by it, but more shocked that I watching this drivel.
Blu-ray Opinion: Okay, so after all my bitching and complaining about the movie, I will let you know that the Blu-ray is fantastic. A lot of love went in to making this disc happen and the features are aplenty. Fans are going to fall in love with everything here. I especially was a big fan of the Grindhouse version of the movie, which is the 35mm version, scratched to shit from years of abuse. It definitely gives the movie a dirtier look that even the director prefers this version to cleaned up one. There is also a commentary with the director, which is full of information and after listening to some of it and watching a few behind the scenes, my appreciation of the work that went into the movie increased. I still do not like the movie, but I can acknowledge the hard work that went into making it.

Verdict: I did not like Nekromantik at all, but honestly, it just wasn’t made for me. I understand there are people out there that love this movie and I am happy Cult Epics went the extra mile and gave you fans something to die for. In the end, if you love Nekromantik, or are very interested in seeing it, there are no ifs, ands or dead butts about it, Cult Epics release is one Blu-ray you should immediately dig up and play with.
